I had several people ask me to try Robocough, however, I had only recently remembered when encountering it in my local headshop. I had a particularly bad day that day and thought maybe it might be nice to experience an authentic DXM experience with a product basically made for it. They appear to make more than one flavor of this stuff, but the only option at the store was grape. I purchased 4 bottles, each at $7.99. Feels like a typical “5 hour energy shot” kind of plastic bottle. The label is what you’d expect, though very well described. Dextromethorphan HBr is printed at the bottom of the bottle as a reminder of the product’s authenticity.
Product Administration
I enjoyed 1 full bottle with only half a chicken parmesan sub on my stomach. I must admit…the taste was more unpleasant than actual cough syrup for whatever reason. Perhaps it was the flavoring being overdone. Regardless, DXM is never pleasant tasting in itself, and no one uses this product or anything like it for the taste. So, paying some allowances where due is important too.
After half an hour, I drank half the second bottle. I consumed the remaining 2.5 bottles throughout the 16-18 hours that followed.
Product Effects
The Robocough liquid may taste terrible, but it’s authentic DXM that can be felt. The onset for me occurred after about 20 minutes of ingesting the first bottle. I felt pretty wicked for about 10-15 minutes. I drank half of my second bottle at the 30 minute mark and then layed back for a few moments before realizing I had to rush to the toilet. I was on the toilet for a good half an hour, with uncontrollable diarhea. I got off the toilet, watched the original batman, and found myself back on the toilet again by the end of the movie. About half the time I used the Robocough, I spent on the toilet. I almost vomited a couple of times, but never quite had to. The time away from the toilet was pretty chill, and I was able to enjoy most of it. Felt a little vertigo a few times which made my time a little worse, but ultimately it was a mild experience all around.
Final Thoughts
The Robocough cough suppressants are authentic DXM products. They do work, and quite well, however, it comes at the cost of a gross taste, nasty aftertaste that lasts all day, and a really twisted stomach ache that simply feels like someone is cranking on your stomach with a ratchet. If you can handle being at the toilet all night, either barfing or crapping, but still pretty high…this is a great DXM product. For me, I think I’ll stick to the gel caps, or a better product altogether. Robocough is definitely better than a sea of other things though, thus, 3 stars with Fat Sammy. I wouldn’t recommend, nor discourage someone wishing to try Robocough.
