General Product Info

Shaman’s Garden sells a lot of random, raw herbals and botanicals. Some are refined, others aren’t. Their Kanna comes in many options, including various extracts and in non-extracted forms. The one I chose was 10 grams of “Full Spectrum 5:1” extract. It seemed to be their premium blend and showed up as it was supposed to: in a quality vacuum sealed foil bag to keep it fresh. It did seem fresh by touch and smell. It even tasted fresh (Kanna has a bit of a bitter, tongue-numbing kind of effect to taste). Shaman’s Garden shipped it fairly quickly and that didn’t surprise me really, as they have done very well in the past. I have a lot of respect for the company. The powder was a little thick, but felt consistent.

Product Administration

Shaman’s Garden is very open about the product being smokeable. I used a fresh bowl and smoked what I would estimate to be about half a gram at a time, which took a few sessions to complete each bowl. The thickness of the extract was perfect for lining the rim of the bowl. It sort of bubbled a little bit, so keep in mind, it will definitely “ruin” a bowl. I smoked about 2 grams a night for a few nights in a row.

Product Effects

The effects of Shaman’s Garden Kanna were pretty great. Way better than being sober, but only for the first couple of nights. The third night started to get weird and I had to stop. I honestly haven’t touched the stuff since, but the high was definitely noticeable and too much so to ignore. I would compare it to a trance-like tunnel vision. Putting an activity in front of you before you start is ideal and makes the experience more fun. The experience becomes about the activity, rather than about the tunnel vision. It almost felt as though I was floating too…a sort of lighter sensation came over my body and it sort of felt like my mind detached from my body and floated a few feet above me. It’s hard to explain, as I definitely still perceived and took in the environment at my eye’s level. It was only my mind which kind of felt “raised up above my body.”

Final Thoughts

I would say that this is one of the best Kanna extracts on the market, especially for the money. The reason it still only gets 3 stars is because Kanna simply isn’t that great of a high altogether. There are so many better, legal highs that by far exceed the high that one would get from Kanna, in duration, quality and enjoyment. It does work though, and this extract is very powerful when it comes to Kanna. I can say Kanna helped me explore parts of what I imagine are my consciousness that I did not know exist. I understand thoroughly why this is used by tribesman and shaman.

Also it is worth noting that it is best to use an old one that you do not care about anymore, or dedicate a new one specifically to Kanna. A cheap bowl is okay, but the extract can take time to heat, and does require the airflow from inhaling to keep the flame on the extract…so a longer pipe is better. Some people suggest sprinkling the extract onto weed before rolling a joint, or otherwise lacing it into a tobacco spliff of sorts. I myself, after having this experience had the idea to use a crack pipe, to vaporize it (indirect lighter heat to the bottom of the bowl would be better and prevent the lungs from having to take so much heat damage while the extract is heating up to release the smoke/vapor).

If trance like states are your thing, this is one of the best shaman herbs for getting high that’s still legal. It is pretty great for reading a long fantasy novel or something like that, and was great for getting drawn into the story. I can confidently recommend this Kanna as one of the best Kanna extracts available to date. Shaman’s Garden was also very professional, as always.

General Product Info

*Update 04-25-20: I cannot reliably get a new pouch of this stuff, and it is now no longer the same when it does show up.  This review is outdated, there are newer lucid dreaming products available.

I will start out by saying I have made many purchases from Shaman’s Garden for many different products and been very satisfied. Their African Dream Herb (Calea zacatechichi) is a generous one ounce portion for a very cheap rate. Unfortunately it is not always in stock, and currently out of stock at the time of this review. Nonetheless, it deserves a review for the time I’ve spent with the product…which I’ll admit has been significantly more than other products I have reviewed. This is probably because I ordered more than one ounce, and didn’t realize how little was required to achieve effects. The product itself showed up timely, and looking good. The herb seemed semi-fresh. I would guess…maybe harvested within the last year; And foil protected wrapping can go a long way!

Product Administration

I used a bowl to smoked about half a gram’s worth of this stuff for the first time, and fell asleep within 10 minutes afterwards. I did not have any background noise, as I did set myself up in bed with no distractions, as to promote the likelihood of the product working. I have used Shaman’s Garden’s African Dream Herb many other times as well, after this first experiment. After my first time, I usually smoked a little more, maybe about .7-.8 of a gram within half an hour while watching a low-key television show, or listening to some non-vocal music (jazz, classical, etc).

Product Effects

Almost always, within 10-20 minutes after finishing a smoking session of Shaman’s Garden’s African Dream Herb, I would fall asleep. Even if I was sitting upright in a chair. It felt good, like when you wake up after falling asleep for only a few moments, and are in that euphoric-like phase of sleep where you want to go back to sleep but feel REALLY comfortable. And my dreams, EVERY TIME I smoke this stuff, are both lucid and incredibly vivid. I also FULLY remember them every time.

I will admit that sometimes they aren’t always “good” dreams…they can even be down right terrifying…but they are always vivid and remembered. And I always know I am dreaming within the dream. Most of the time, I can control my dream to most extents (change the place, bring people in, change the environment). Sometimes the dreams can still be hard to control, even when I know I am dreaming. I suppose even with the aid of the African Dream Herb, it can take some training and practice. When I smoke more of the stuff, the dreams are more intense, seem to last longer, and are more likely to be “more” lucid…but harder to control. When I smoke less of the African Dream Herb, the dreams are very vivid, a little less lucid, but in the lucid parts…much more controllable.

Also, it is worth noting that I have experienced no side effects and almost always wake up feeling really refreshed. I never have any headaches, hang over like effect or nausea. I do wake up feeling kind of hungry though…and I typically do not eat breakfast. Oddly enough, after a night of smoking African Dream Herb, I not only am hungry the next morning, but I really enjoy cooking, smelling, tasting, and consuming breakfast meals of all sorts.

Final Thoughts

Again, I have purchased from Shaman’s Garden before and some of their products are hit and miss, but this one was one of the good ones! Their African Dream Herb was the best Calea zacatechichi I have ever tried. I can strongly recommend this to anyone who is exploring plants for lucid dreaming, or trying to better remember their dreams. My rate of success in lucid dreaming is extremely high with this herb. In fact, almost any time I use it before bed (it must be smoked, I haven’t had success with any other administration method), I have had lucid dreams that I can actually remember. Shaman’s garden has earned a solid 4 star rating for their Calea zacatechichi, or African Dream Herb!
